Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary - Nesting original water- birds as well as migratory
water birds and waterside birds, this sanctuary is also
occupied by Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar in the
Tour of Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary.
More than 300 species of birds can be located in this
small wildlife park of 29-sq-kms of which 11-sq-kms
are marshes and the rest scrubland and grassland in
the Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary.
Keoladeo, commonly known as Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary,
is the habitat which has been created by a maharaja in
the Tour of Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary.
Bharatpur Lake has become the hunting conserve of the
Bharatpur royalty, and one of the best duck - shooting
wetlands in the world. Hunting was forbidden by mid-60s.
Bharatpur Wildlife Sanctuary and the area was affirmed a national park on 10 March 1982,
and established as a World Heritage Site in December
1985.
Tours in Bharatpur and the main attractions of tourists visiting the park
are the abundant migratory birds, which come from as
far away as Siberia and Central Asia and spend their
winters in Bharatpur, before flying back to their breeding
grounds.
Migratory birds at Bharatpur bird sanctuary includes,
numerous species of Cranes, Pelicans, Geese, Ducks,
Eagles, Hawks, Shanks, Stints, Wagtails, Warblers, Wheatears,
Flycatchers, Buntings, Larks and Pipits, etc.
A boat trip early in the morning or late evening is
quite a rewarding experience in the park.
Tours in Bharatpur and the park supports a population of 375 species of birds,
plentiful mammals and reptiles. With the beginning of
winter, migratory birds from all over world come here.
They appear by August and leave in February. Visitors
include Coot Snipes, Spanish Sparrow, Red Crested Porhard,
Rosy Pelican and Flamingo. Tours in Bharatpur and the extraordinary draw, however,
remains the arrival of the rare Siberian Crane. The
park is also rich in Pythons, Spotted Deer, Sambhars,
Blue Bull, Black Buck, Jackals, Otters, Fishing Cats,
Monitor Lizards.
Tours in Bharatpur and the Keoladeo National Park is open throughout the year.
August-October is the breeding season, so the birds
are top left alone then. The best season for visiting
this place is between October to February when the migratory
birds come to stay this park across the world.
Tours in Bharatpur and the Park is easily accessible from Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The best way to reach this place is by bus,
which is readily available from any of these three major
tourist destinations. The nearest airport is that of
Agra. Bharatpur has its own railway stations with many
main trains halting here.
