Khajuraho Temples are located at Madhya Pradesh of
India. These temples were built between 950 AD and 1050
AD. Previously there where 85 temples now it reduced
to 22 in number. There are three groups of the Khajuraho
Temples.
Among which the Western Group of Khajuraho
Temples are most famous. This group has the largest
typical temple called Kandariya Mahadev.
Kandariya Mahadev Temple of Western Group of Khajuraho
Temples has 900 pillars. In this temple Lord is worshipped
and the temple is situated at 31 meter above the sea
level. In the sanctum of the temple there is a lingam
of Lord Shiva.
The main part of the temple has the carvings
of various gods and goddesses in the trip to Madhya
Pradesh.
Chausat Yogini Temple is the temple of Goddess Kali.
This temple was built in granite and it is the oldest
temples among the surviving temples.
Another temple
of the Western Group of Khajuraho Temples is Chitragupta
Temple. In this temple Surya or the sun god is the worshipping
God. In Vishwanath Temple there is a three-headed image
of Lord Brahma.
The statue of a Lion is in the guard
of the Northern part of the temple. In the Southern
part of the temple there is the statue of Elephant.
There are two other temples in the Western Group of
Khajuraho Temples. One is Lakshamana Temple which is
dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
The temple has the statue
of holy trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva with Goddess
Lakshmi. In the sanctum one can find the carving of
Lord Vishnus incarnation Narasimha and Varaha.
Another is the Matangeshwara Temple which is also dedicated
to Lord Shiva and it has eight feet high lingam. Southern
part of this temple is an open air Archaeological Museum
in the trip to Madhya Pradesh.
