History of Agra Taj Mahal - Agra and the Agra History is a city of history on the banks of Yamuna River.
It is an old city. It is believed that in 1506 the Delhi
Sultanate ruler Sikandar Lodi established this city.
Agra was his capital city. After the death of Sikandar
Lodi his son Ibrahim Lodi ascended the throne and governed
the entire Delhi Sultanate from Agra. But in 1526 Babur
defeated him in the battle of First Panipat and captured
the Agra city. After the battle of First Panipat Agra
became the most important city of Mughal dynasty in
the History in Agra.
Agra History in India - Mughals ruled Agra for almost hundred years. During
this period Agra flourished with great architectural
skill. On the banks of river Yamuna Babur put down the
first stone of Mughal architecture in the Agra History
in India. He built the Persian
garden called Aram Bagh or Garden of Relaxation. Humayun
lived a very short life so there is no evidence of architecture
created during his reign. But in Akbar's reign Agra
had seen splendid constructions like Fatehpur Sikri,
Red Fort, etc. Jahangir the great lover of natural beauty
created many gardens inside the Red Fort. During the
reign of Shah Jahan not only Agra the entire country
witnessed the architectural splendor. Shah Jahan built
Taj Mahal, the white marbled monument in memory of his
wife Mumtaz Mahal. It became the most beautiful symbol
of love. He shifted the capital to Delhi during his
rule. But Aurangzeb resifted the capital to Agra and
imprisoned his father Shah Jahan in the History in
Agra.
After the fall of the Mughal dynasty Marathas and Jats
took the charge of Agra city and in 1803 Agra came under
the rule of British.
