There are various mosques and temples in Delhi that
made the place a destination for the religious people.
The mosques and tombs of Delhi were mostly built during
the Mughal rule. One of them is the mausoleum of Hazrat
Nizamuddin Auliya.
This tomb was made by a rich business man Faridun
Khan in 1562. This tomb was made in the memory of a
great humanitarian Sufi Saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya.
He was born in 1236 at Badaun. Nizamuddin was the adherent
of Saint Sheikh Farid Shakarganj who chose Nizamuddin
as his successor. He was famous among the all the people
irrespective of their religion. He had great belief
religious tolerance and peace. The famous rulers of
that time and later days become the follower of Nizamuddin.
The list includes Alauddin Khilji, Mohammad bin Tughlaq
and all the Mughal rulers. The well known poet Amir
Khasru is also in the list. Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya
died in 1325.
Nizamuddin's Tomb was situated in the Nizamuddin village
and it is only 2 km from the Humayun's Tomb. The main
tomb was demolished long before. It is a marble architecture
which is decorated with jali and fabric work. In the
balcony of the tomb there is an arrangement of namaz
prayer and quwaali singing. On the central dome there
is a lotus capping and black marble work. This intricate
design made Nizamuddin's Tomb a great architectural
splendor.
