Jaigarh Fort is a spectacular fort that can place
us in the medieval period of Rajasthan. This fort was
created between 15th and 18th centuries by Sawai Man
Singh. Jaigarh fort was built to keep the security of
Amer and Jaipur. It was also used for the depositary
of the monarchs of Jaipur. Situated at the top of the
hill this is a huge fort. The fort is 15km from Jaipur
city. Jaigarh fort is a splendid example of military
architecture of medieval India and the construction
is preserved with great care.
From the Diwa Burj watch tower one can have a beautiful
sight of the Amber fort and the town. The main gate
of the fort is called Dungar Darwaza. Jaigarh is the
strongest structure of India and has a rugged look.
The fort has the world's largest cannon Jivan whose
barrel weighs 50 tons. The cannon was built in 1720.
Jaigarh fort is furnished with various temples and palaces,
though the palaces are not as gorgeous as the palaces
in Amber fort. The museum inside the fort consists of
military equipments and pictures. The hall of the fort
(Shubhat Nivas) has pictures of military officers of
Indian army and Maharajas of Jaipur and also the warned
out wooden chairs and drums. Inside the fort there is
a big reservoir which is an evident of the engineering
excellence of the ancient India.
