part of the peoples life. This region has many

time when they dress up in traditional costumes and

Some of the famous Fairs and Festivals of Himachal Pradesh are
Kullu Dussehra is a popular festival celebrated
in the northern India. Here the actual festival begins
here when it ends all over India . This is a seven day
celebration and it is believed that Gods of Kullu, Rupi
and Seraj gather here.
Shivratri is celebrated in February-March and
along with it a a fair is held for 7-8 days. Many Gods
and Goddeses are brought in a procession to Mandi town
and taken to Mahadev temple.
Pori Festival is a vibrant festival celebrated
in Lahaul .There is traditional ritual of bathing the
idol of lord Triloknath is in milk and yogurt, along
with ringing of the conch shells .A procession with
a horse is taken out and people here believe that god
sits on the back of the horse.
Phulaich : This festival is known as 'Ookayand
', meaning the festival of flowers, It is mainly celebrated
in Kinnaur district. It is on 16th September, when 10
men of Rajput clan ascend up to the higher hills to
collect flowers and return two days later and it is
then the festival is celebrated. The people congregate
to see flowers and then the festivities begins..
Holi is one of the most popular fairs and festivals
in Himachal Pradesh. This festival is celebrated in
traditional way where many rituals are followed . The
small twigs of Kamal tree are painted and women carry
bamboo baskets with thread, kukkum, jaggery and roasted
grams to an elderly person in the village. Holi bonfire
is then lighted and a contest is then organized among
the village youths about who will be the first one to
touch the Holi flag first. The next day Holi is celebrated
with much revelry and enthusiasm.
