gompas and monasteries are very calm and quiet and can
give you a cooling effect. The monasteries are colorfully
decorated with mural paintings; stuccos and elaborate

Pradesh Dalhousie is most famous as it is a staying
place of famous Buddhist monk Dalai Lama. The place
also has a center for Buddhist learning. Among other
Buddhist Pilgrimage sites Rewalsar is the most auspicious
it is situated 20 km south west of Mandi. It is a pagoda
style monastery. There is Guru Ghantal Monastery which
is the oldest gompa of Lahaul. It is built by the wood
and have pyramidal roof. In mid June there is a festival
takes place, it is called Ghantal festival.
Other major Buddhist Pilgrimage Sites in Himachal
Pradesh are mainly situated in Lahaul and Spiti. They
are Shashur Monastery, Tayul Gompa, Kye Monastery, Thang
Yug Gompa and Tabo Monastery.
