About Chittorgarh Fort of Chittorgarh:
Apart from being attacked thrice Chittorgarh Fort of Chittorgarh has not lost its charm and elegance in its
true sense and still serves as the epitome of the fortitude
of the Rajputs which is quite becoming to the valor
and principles of them. This marvelous fort stands on
the rocky tableland on a 0 feet high hill and occupies
an area of 700 acres. Chittorgarh palace, Chittorgarh
was built by Rana Kumbha and this is the oldest monument
among the rest of the monuments in Rajasthan. The access
point to the fort of Chittorgarh which was set up from
1433-68 in the plaster of stone is from the Suraj Pol
which is the Darikhana and it has a Ganesha temple behind
it. It also has a zenana which is meant for the women
only.
Suraj Pol has on its left side a huge water reservoir.
Fort of Chittorgarh in Rajasthan has a specific appeal
which most of the other palaces in Rajasthan lack or
may be deprived of. When one approaches towards the
south of the palace he may come across the decapitated
houses that could have been used by the lower class
of the nobles or by the palace attendants. The most
striking feature of Chittorgarh fort is its canopied
balconies. The fort also used top shelter the elephants
and the horses since it had the stables built for them
inside the palace.
The other two very important traits of this palace
are;
- The Kirti Stambha: This captivating stambha is the
memorial dedicated to the first Jain tirthankara or
the spiritual teacher and has 5 ft. statue of the saint.
It is approximately 12th century old and is a seven
storied structure
with 54 stairways.
- The Vijay Stambha: This is located at the foot of the
fort and could be seen from the town itself. The height
has the towering altitude of 12 ft and rests on a base
of 47 sq.ft. and 10 ft high. The whole structure is
sculpted with the happenings from the Mahabharata and
Ramayana.
