Rajaji National Park is known for its breathtaking
scenic beauty and rich biodiversity. This is a paradise
for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. This National
Park sprawls over 820 sq km across the Shivaliks in
the foothills of Himalayas. The Rajaji National Park
expands to three districts of Uttaranchal- Haridwar,
Dehradun and Pauri Garhwal. It was in 1983 that the
three wildlife sanctuaries of Rajaji, Motichur and Chilla
were merged into a single contiguous park.
This park has numerous distinct vegetation zones. And
flora of Rajaji National Park consists of broadleaved
deciduous forests, riverine vegetation, grasslands,
and pine forests in the higher altitudes.
The lush green forest of Uttaranchal Rajaji National Park is home
to wide variety of wildlife. There are
- 23 species of mammals- including tigers, leopards,
elephants, deer, jungle cat, wild boar and sloth bear
- 315 species of birds are found in Rajaji like pea fowl,
woodpeckers, pheasants, kingfishers and barbets, as
well as a number of migratory species during the winter
months.
- Fishes such as trout and mahseer in the river that flows
through this park.

roaming majestically or a tiger making its way stealthily
through the tall grass. You will find here leopard,
jungle cat, Himalayan yellow throated marten, sambar,
cheetal, barking deer, wild boar, sloth bear, langoor,
ghoral, monitor lizard, python, civet and even kingcobra
and wide variety of avian species like pea fowl, jungle
fowl, kaleej pheasant, hornbil, woodpecker, thrushes,
kingfishers, parakeets, warbler, barbet, finch, Indian
roller, oriola etc.
Rajaji National Park is open between November and June.
The best time to visit is in the months of December
to March .
