Valley of Flowers in Uttaranchal            

The Valley of Flowers is famous all over the world and is nestled in the upper reaches of Bhyundar Ganga in the interior of Garhwal Himalayas. It sprawls over an area of 87.5 Sq. Km and the altitude of the Valley of Flowers vary from 3,250 m -6,750 m.

It was Frank S, Smith who was instrumental in introducing this valley to the world as the Valley of Flowers .The Valley of Flowers National Park stretches from Ghangharia and the main valley begins after journey through the gorge.You will find the snow capped Ratban Parvat in the front of the Valley and on the left side is Nar Parvat which separates the Badrinath valley from this valley and on the right hill you will find the lush Birch forest.

There is a meadow below this forest and here in the valley you will find River pushpavati flowing as well as some breathtaking waterfalls.

Here in the Valley of Flowers the flowers start blooming immediately after the snow melts and the full blossoms can be found in the period from mid July to mid of August. Here you will find as many as 300 species of wild flowers blooming in their natural way.

Some of the flower species are Anemone, Geranium, Marsh marigold, Prinula, Potentilla, Geum, Asters, Lilium, Ranunculus, Corydalis ,Inula , Braham kamal , Campanula , Pedicularis , Arisaema , Morina , Impatiens , Bistorta , Ligularia , Anaphalis , Saxifrages , Sibbaldia , Trollius etc.

Many of the flowers here have medicinal values as well . There is wide growth of Asmanda fern in this valley which is quite unique indeed. Another interesting aspect is that the flower composition changes in few days and the flower remains in bloom for three months. In the month of September the color of the flower changes and when autumn starts, flowers wither.
